The e-service and associated energy management system, known as Smart homes, uses Strathclyde University’s En-Trak energy monitoring software and can act independently or enhance smart meter technology.

Our core business is delivering more efficient energy reporting software and management systems for the Housing Associations and individual users.

The smart home hardware includes:

• An e-box (required to transmit data).

• Sensors (required to gather data).

• Actuators (required to control appliances).

The En-trak energy services - when categorised into information, monitoring with alerts or alarms, monitoring with feedback and monitoring with actuation include:

  • Environmental monitoring e.g. detection of CO, smoke, temperature and humidity to protect tenants health.
  • Metering e.g. of gas, electricity, and water consumption, for analysis of best energy tariffs.
  • Fuel consumption monitoring e.g. for reporting to occupants to raise awareness and encourage behavioural change.
  • reporting to energy suppliers for aggregate statistical analysis
  • weather related services e.g. heating control, night cooling, use of rain water to
  • appliance control on a small scale e.g. for heating, lighting, and small power within one household
